A Love / Hate relationship

Spring is in the air.
(Well by the time I am finally publishing this it is really summer)

Time to fix up the garden, Go for bike rides, walk in the park and start up your motorcycle.

Stella has had a fascination with motorcycles. She thinks they are cool. Big versions of her “laufrad”. She always points them out when we are underway.

There is one thing that kind of freaks her out though. “They don’t have any heads” according to her. Indeed, they don’t. To a small 3 year old, this must look pretty strange. This figure that seems to look like mommy or daddy but there are no eyes, nose, mouth etc. Just a big sphere where the head should be. Mommy explained that this is a helmet just like her bike helmet but since they go faster they have to protect the whole face.

Unfortunately we did have a traumatic event that has left Stella shaking when she sees Harley’s. The family was on a quiet afternoon walk in Calrow. Speed racer was up ahead of us and doing circles in the large curve waiting for us to catch up.

From behind us came a Harley. We told Stella to pull over to the side but she didn’t know what was coming. The Harley quietly coasted past the family with strollers and dogs. Not knowing that there was a little kid behind the hedge, once clear of the family he pulled the throttle to get through the corner.

The motorcycle let out a loud roar as he leaned into the curve and past an unsuspecting Stella. Stella who was paying attention to her bike, nearly jumped out of her shorts. She was so shaken that she peed her pants.

This did cause some fear of crossing the road alone or when cars, motorcycles, people, bikes are coming towards us, but it is slowly subsiding.

Needless to say, she hasn’t been totally damaged. With the nice weather we like to go to Ratzeburg to walk along the water and get an ice cream. The ice cream store is also a hot spot for motorcyclists taking a break from their tours.

We rounded the bend and parked in front was a hot pink Motorcycle. Stella pointed and said “look, my color, that will be my bike one day”
